Barcelona's Nou Camp Chosen Over Wembley for 2029 UEFA Champions League Final
The UEFA Executive Committee has decided that the 2029 UEFA Champions League final will be held at Barcelona's renovated Nou Camp, denying Wembley Stadium and Borussia Dortmund’s Westfalenstadion the chance to host the event.
Wembley has hosted three Champions League finals since reopening in 2007, including the most recent one in 2024. Despite its strong history as a venue, Wembley lost out this time to the newly upgraded Nou Camp.
The Nou Camp is undergoing significant renovations and will host the final for the first time in 30 years. It last staged the European Cup final in 1989, when AC Milan triumphed, while the 1999 final at this ground is famous for Manchester United’s dramatic late win against Bayern Munich, completing their treble.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta expressed pride in the announcement, saying, "This is an immense source of pride for FC Barcelona and for all Barça supporters. This decision is also international recognition for the new Spotify Camp Nou, which is establishing itself as a world-class stadium at the forefront of fan experience, technology, connectivity, accessibility, and services."
Wembley's Legacy and Other UEFA Final Hosts
Besides the Champions League finals, Wembley played host to the Euro 2020 final and semi-finals, after the tournament was postponed due to the pandemic. The stadium is scheduled to be a central venue for Euro 2028 across the United Kingdom.
The 2028 Champions League final was awarded to the Allianz Arena in Munich. Bayern Munich’s stadium hosted the final in 2025 when Paris Saint-Germain defeated Inter Milan and will now host it for the third time in 16 years.
Since Wembley's redevelopment, only Wembley and Allianz Arena have each hosted three Champions League finals.
