Desire Doue Commends PSG's Determination After Ending Barcelona's Unbeaten Streak in Champions League
Desire Doue highlighted Paris Saint-Germain's sharpness after netting a goal during their 4-2 victory that halted Barcelona's 11-game unbeaten streak in the Champions League at Parc des Princes.
French Youngster Sparks Paris Victory
The rising star from France praised Les Parisiens' clinical performance that stopped the La Liga leaders' undefeated run in Europe. Building on his impressive display against Manchester City last week, Doue broke the deadlock in the 38th minute with a precise low shot to the bottom corner. Barcelona allowed 10 shots on target in the first half, marking their worst defensive record since the 2003-04 season.
High Pressing Disrupts Barcelona's Defense
The hosts' intense pressing strategy caused early confusion, notably when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia struck the post within the opening moments after a turnover by Pedri. Barcelona’s goalkeeper Joan Garcia made several crucial saves denying Ousmane Dembele and Ferran Torres, who came on after Dembele's injury. On the other side, Russian keeper Matvey Safonov blocked attempts by Raphinha and Fermin Lopez.
Doue reflected to PSG TV: "We knew it was going to be a match of the highest standard. We were up to the challenge and showed some great football. We took our chances. The aim was to score more goals than them, because we knew they could score as well. They are a quality opponent, but we got the win and that's fantastic."
Second Half Surge Secures Historic Achievement
19-year-old Xavi Espart equalized shortly after halftime, only for Lucas Hernandez to head PSG ahead again from a corner. Despite a quick reply from Lamine Yamal, who made it 2-2, PSG responded swiftly with Vitinha volleying home following a chest control and Fabian Ruiz converting a cross from Achraf Hakimi.
This win brought the holders’ goal tally to 14 in three games, tying Arsenal’s 2010-11 record and making them the first team since Barcelona (September 2016 to March 2017) to score four or more goals in three consecutive home matches in the competition.
Doue added: "No matter what happens during the game, we try and stay focused every time. We know our qualities, we know we can score at any moment, whether that's immediately after conceding a goal or right after scoring one ourselves, we stay focused on what we have to do and tonight we did it well."
