Jhon Duran Shines as Benfica Crush Celtic 4-1 in Europa League
Jhon Duran starred with two goals, helping Benfica secure a commanding victory over Celtic at Estadio da Luz in the UEFA Europa League. The Colombian striker’s sharp finishing combined with strong team play impressed both fans and coach Marco Silva, as Benfica extended their perfect run in the competition.
Duran's Double and Benfica’s Control
The match kicked off with Duran calmly converting a Panenka penalty to put Benfica ahead early. Soon after, Alexander Bah added a second goal with a stunning volley. Duran then found space to slot in a third from a narrow angle before halftime, leaving Celtic struggling to keep up.
Celtic managed to pull one back through Camilo Duran, but substitute Vangelis Pavlidis sealed Benfica’s triumph late in the game. This win places Benfica third in the group standings while preserving their unbeaten record.
Duran Praises Team Spirit and Confidence Boost
“These two goals boost my confidence and help me connect better with Vangelis Pavlidis,” said Duran. “Everyone knows how well he’s scoring and his impact on the team. Whenever I get the chance to play, I’ll give my best.”
He expressed satisfaction with his performance and the forward line's unity that drives Benfica’s attacking strength.
Silva Wants More Control After Strong First Half
“Our first half was so good it made things look easy,” Silva commented. “We know Celtic’s quality, and if we let them gain confidence, they can cause problems.”
The coach highlighted the importance of maintaining composure when leading, aiming for a more controlled approach in future matches despite the solid attacking display.
