Lamine Yamal Embraces Barcelona's Drive for Champions League Glory

Lamine Yamal believes Barcelona’s focus on winning the Champions League is a positive mindset. The young forward said it would be "cowardly" not to aim for European success under coach Hansi Flick.

Despite not winning the Champions League since 2015, Barcelona have reached the semi-finals and quarter-finals during Flick’s time in charge. Their hunger for continental glory remains strong as the 2026-27 season progresses.

Yamal Welcomes the Winning Mentality

Speaking to Movistar, Yamal expressed that having belief in lifting the Champions League trophy is important. He explained, "I like that people come to the dressing room and believe that we can win the Champions League. The problem would be if someone said we are going to win it no matter what, because you never know that for sure. But being obsessed with winning it is a good thing in the end."

He emphasized Barcelona’s proud history, saying, "We are Barça, a club that has had moments as the best team in history and has won the Champions League. We have the team to do it, and it would be a bit cowardly not to think: this year we are going for the Champions League and not just focusing on the league."

Still Focused on La Liga Success

Yamal also made clear that winning La Liga remains a key target. He aims for a third consecutive title with Flick at the helm, stating, "We are going for the League, we can win both the League and the Champions League. We have to be a team that sticks together even during those tough 20 minutes in games," highlighting how crucial moments can decide a season.
