Raheem Sterling Charged After M3 Lamborghini Crash
Raheem Sterling will appear in court next month charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation after crashing his Lamborghini into motorway barriers in May.
The 31-year-old, capped 82 times by England and once a central figure for Manchester City and Chelsea, was involved in a single-car collision on the M3 in Hampshire on the morning of Thursday, 28 May.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed Sterling has been charged with three offences following the incident near the Minley Interchange on the southbound carriageway.
A police spokesman said: "A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3.
"Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen.
"The charges come following a single vehicle collision, involving a Lamborghini, on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange [Hampshire], on 28 May, 2026.
"No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported. Mr Sterling is due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September."
Sterling was arrested at the scene and later released on bail while officers carried out further enquiries.
Police had initially suspected him of "driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs", but that allegation does not feature among the charges he now faces.
Back in May, a source close to Sterling told BBC Sport there was "no proof" of drugs in his system, and said the forward had endured "an extremely tough couple of years", describing how he had been made to "feel worthless" and "forgotten about".
From title winner to free agent
The court case arrives at a time when Sterling’s club future is already uncertain.
He has been without a team since leaving Feyenoord at the end of last season, his short spell in the Eredivisie coming after his Chelsea career unravelled.
Chelsea signed him from Manchester City in 2022 for £47.5m, recruiting a player who had helped drive City’s era of domestic dominance. Across seven years at the Etihad, Sterling won four Premier League titles, five League Cups and one FA Cup, becoming one of the league’s most decisive wide forwards.
His trajectory shifted quickly. In 2024, he joined Arsenal on loan, but on returning to Chelsea in 2025 he was frozen out of the first-team picture and ordered to train away from the main squad. By February, he had left Stamford Bridge by mutual consent and moved to Feyenoord on a short-term deal.
Now, with that contract finished and no club secured, the former Liverpool winger faces a very different kind of date: Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September, where the next chapter of a once-glittering career will be argued not on grass, but in front of a bench.
