Sean Brady Shares Reason for Withdrawing From UFC Vegas 124 Main Event
Sean Brady, a top contender in the UFC welterweight division, has revealed why he withdrew from his scheduled main event fight at UFC Vegas 124. The bout against Gabriel Bonfim was set for next Saturday but Brady will no longer compete.
With just a week remaining before the event, finding a replacement for Brady is uncertain, leaving Bonfim's participation in doubt as well.
Brady Details His Injury on The BradyBagz Show
During an interview on The BradyBagz Show, Brady explained the circumstances behind his decision to pull out.
"My knee got swollen after training. By 9 PM, I couldn’t even walk. By Wednesday morning, I knew something was wrong. I've dealt with bursitis before, but this wasn’t that — it felt like an infection. I could barely move," Brady said (via Bloody Elbow).
He confirmed the issue was a staph infection. Since he isn’t at full health, Brady felt forced to step away from the fight, which also means Bonfim loses the chance to break into the elite tier of the welterweight division.
Apologizing to Bonfim for the Disappointment
Brady expressed sympathy for Bonfim, who had completed an entire training camp preparing for this matchup.
"I feel for Bonfim. It sucks when fights fall through two weeks out and you’re left wondering if you'll compete or find a new opponent. He put in the work for his camp, and I did too — I trained hard for ten weeks," Brady added.
Brady recognizes this is a setback not just for himself but also for Bonfim’s career progression.
Looking Ahead: Recovery Before Returning
Brady must now focus on recovering fully before the UFC can schedule his next appearance inside the Octagon.
