Stephen Curry Set for Season Opener After Ankle Incident at Practice
Stephen Curry experienced a brief scare during Sunday’s open practice with the Golden State Warriors when he rolled his right ankle, but he is expected to be ready for the season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The incident happened at the Chase Center in San Francisco as Curry was handling the ball near the top of the key. After the twist, he immediately stopped, slammed the ball on the court, showing clear frustration, and then limped off to the bench. He briefly doubled over before heading to the locker room.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr reassured everyone that Curry’s knee was unaffected by the mishap and confirmed the guard was fine after talking to him post-practice.
"Always, always," Kerr said when asked if his heart skipped a beat seeing Curry limp off, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Luca Evans. "He’s fine. I went and talked to him after he went downstairs, and I went into the training room."
On Monday, Kerr announced that Curry had fully participated in practice and would suit up for Wednesday’s game in Los Angeles.
Curry’s Recent Season and Contract Update
Last season was tough for Curry, limited to just 43 games because of a persistent right knee injury. Despite his efforts averaging 26.6 points and 4.7 assists per game, the Warriors struggled, finishing 37-45 and missing the playoffs for the second time in three years.
Recently, Curry secured his future with the team by signing a two-year contract extension worth $116 million.
Upcoming Matchup
The Warriors kick off the 2026-27 season on Wednesday night facing the Lakers. Although there was some uncertainty due to the ankle tweak, Curry is set to start the campaign without restrictions.
